Embrace your Cultural Identity and Power

ARE your employees empowered enough to leverage their cultural identities and strengths at work?

are your minority group members being marginalized in your organization?

do they connect and operate in separate silos of disconnect within your company?

At AJ RAO, LLC, we understand the benefits of empowering employees to bring their cultural diversity to the table.

Marginalization in Workspaces

Who are marginalized employees?

Marginalization happens when employees are treated as invisible or as if they are all interchangeable and replaceable. The value of their unique skills and talents as people get diminished, or are even seen as unwelcome or unnecessary.

In general, the major groups that are traditionally marginalized are:

  • ethnic minorities
  • religious minorities
  • people with disabilities or challenges
  • LGBTQIA+ persons
  • women

These are employees who are excluded from opportunities or face a lack of opportunities for authentic participation in formal or informal day-to-day conversations, decision making or group activities in an organization.

The burden is put on them to include themselves even while their unique identities are minimized as unimportant.

The impact and cost of marginalization:

  • emotional tax
  • no or very slow career growth
  • no skill development
  • low self-esteem
  • resentment
  • lack of confidence
  • increased anxiety and stress
  • burnout and fatigue
  • lack of motivation
  • being overworked and underpaid
  • relationship conflicts
  • being overlooked for leadership opportunities because they don’t fit the mold of a “traditional leader”.
