Dear Healthcare Practitioner,
How are you really doing right now, as you risk your own physical and mental wellbeing to serve those who are critically ill because of an invisible pathogen?
You were always a hero. But, that is especially true right now. You are risking your own life to help others even with a severe shortage of supplies. You are getting conflicting messages from leaders about health protocols and policies. You are making an untold number of life or death decisions every working moment. You’re probably thinking about these experiences every moment you’re not working.
And, you may not be able to talk about your work at home. You may even be completely isolated from your families because you can’t take the risk. You may feel like you are replaceable. Expendable, even.
But, you are not! You are not replaceable and you are definitely not expendable!
This is why I created this support system, especially for YOU. For those moments when you are so mentally exhausted, burned out, and fatigued that you seek sanctuary in a lounge, a closet or maybe even a bathroom stall in the hospital just for a respite. Because you are still a whole human being at the end of the day, and you deserve nothing less than to have non-judgmental support through this.

What is mindset?
Our mindset is the internal framework through which we view ourselves and the world around us; an implicit personality theory. Research from Stanford psychologist, Dr. Carol Dweck has demonstrated that we have two main mindsets that we spend time in — a fixed mindset and a growth mindset. In a fixed mindset, we tend to think of ourselves as fixed entities who have no scope of learning and changing. In a growth mindset, we focus on learning and embrace change. How much time we spend in each of these mindsets determines our attitudes and actions toward our present and future selves.
Why mindset support right now?
Your mindset is deeply affected by conditioning. It determines whether you can participate in any moment, or whether you internalize it. As a healthcare practitioner on the front lines you are facing an overwhelming amount of sickness, death, lack of understanding, irrational behaviors and more right now. All of these are negative experiences that over a very short amount of time can condition your mindset negatively.Â
Your mindset matters for your wellbeing through this crisis and beyond. Your mindset empowers you to take care of the most important thing in your life — YOU. Mindset is intricately linked to mental wellbeing, resilience, creativity, optimism, and performance. We as a society, need you to be well. We need you to be resilient, and optimistic. And, we will need you long after this crisis has ended.Â
